Thirty years in the making, this magnum of 1996 Vogüé Musigny is drinking in the zone right now and in no rush to go anywhere. Burghound called it at peak right now, but with enough to keep singing for years to come. Silky, elegant, and ready to drink — go for it!

1996 Burgundy took its sweet time and is now delivering in a big way!

A vintage that produced wines of exceptional structure, minerality, and age-worthy potential. The catch? They shut down almost immediately after release and spent the better part of two decades refusing to budge.

Worth every year of the wait.

Nearly thirty years on, this Musigny is finally showing its hand. Burghound visited in 2022 and found it basically at peak — primary and secondary fruit beautifully knitted together, with layered through the minerality and delineation that defines great Musigny.

The window is open. In magnum, this kind of evolution is something else entirely and nearly impossible to find in this format, and drinking magnificently right now. Don't wait!

Wine Spectator | 96 Points

"Harmony defined. Full-bodied and without a glitch, here's a red Burgundy so supple it caresses the palate, all the while delivering a mineral, terroir-driven character that's simply spectacular. *Cellar Selection*"

Vinous | 94+ Points

"Very good deep red-ruby. Black cherry, boysenberry, rose petal, licorice, minerals, shoe polish, mint and white pepper on the nose. Extremely unyielding today in the middle palate, and dominated by its rather large structure. Exotic hints of citrus fruit keep the flavors bright and sharp. Then extremely long and authoritative on the back end. A wine of great potential, but it's all nose and finish today. May ultimately merit a considerably higher score."
