After "fiddling around" with blends in prior vintages, Alex Golitzin went with straight Cabernet in 1998, an exceptional year for Washington State, and the result helped set the benchmark for what Cabernet from Columbia Valley could be.

Quilceda Creek has spent decades proving that Washington State belongs in the same conversation as Napa's most coveted Cabernets, and this bottling helped make that case.

Founded in 1978 by Alex and Jeannette Golitzin, the Snohomish winery draws fruit from across Washington's Columbia Valley and has earned multiple perfect scores from Wine Advocate over the years, a level of consistency few American producers can match.

Alex's late uncle, the legendary André Tchelistcheff, brought old-world winemaking rigor to Beaulieu Vineyards decades earlier, and that lineage shows in Quilceda's approach: opulent, powerful wines built to age.

1998 was an exceptional vintage for Washington State, and it marked a turning point for the estate, the first year Alex committed to a straight Cabernet Sauvignon after experimenting with blends in prior vintages. The result was a wine of massive concentration and structure, built for the long haul, with fruit that could carry decades in the cellar.

Wine Advocate | 96 Points

"Blackberry jam, juniper berries, and spices can be found in the rich aromatics of the stunning, dark-colored 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon. A wine of awesome breadth, width, concentration, and power, this full-bodied beauty is crammed with lush layers of blackberries, plums, and cassis. This offering's prodigious fruit envelopes its copious silky tannin. Additionally, it displays an extraordinarily long finish."

Wine Enthusiast | 95 Points

"After 'fiddling around,' as he puts it, with blends in his ’96 and ’97 Cabs, winemaker Alex Golitzin decided to go with straight Cabernet in ’98, an exceptional vintage for Washington State. This is a tight, focused effort, with powerful black fruits augmented with herbs and spices and a hint of mineral. Young, tart and tannic, it will continue to improve as it knits together over the years. *Editors' Choice*"
